Dairy-free High Protein Chickpea Smoothie (No Banana)

A plant-based smoothie that is rich, chocolatey, packed with fibre and protein for hormone balance, satiety, and nutrition. You would never know that chickpeas are the protein source in this smoothie!

This healthy breakfast or snack takes just minutes to prep and uses only 8 wholesome ingredients. All you need is a blender and a can opener 🙂

If you recognize this recipe, you would have seen a very similar list of ingredients in my Chickpea Blondies. This smoothie tastes really similar….decadent, creamy, delicious. The only differences is that the Chickpea Blondies are baked and have a couple extra baking essentials.

Ingredients you will need for a Chickpea Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup canned chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup unsweetened oat or almond milk (or dairy)
  • 2 Tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 Tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp almond butter
  • pinch of sea salt

How to make it

  1. Rinse and drain the can of chickpeas. You are only using 1/2 cup so freeze or refrigerate the rest of the beans to use later. If you need ideas, try these:

2. Add all the smoothie ingredients to a blender and blend on high for a minute. Add ice and blend a bit longer, if desired.
